SPEaR Chair
Currently this position is vacant. The role will be reviewed as part of the review of SPEaR and the development of a strategy that incorporates both research and policy in the social sector.
SPEaR Secretariat
The SPEaR Secretariat will continue to give management and administration support to current Linkages funded projects, and to the SPEaR website.
Previous SPEaR Chairs
Len Cook (2008 - 2010) was the New Zealand Government Statistician 1992 to 2000 and National Statistician and Director of the Office for National Statistics, United Kingdom and the Registrar General of England and Wales from 2000 to 2005.
Professor Richard Bedford (2004/5 to 2007/8) has completed his term as independent Chair and has recently been appointed to the Marsden Fund Committee. He is Professor of Geography and Convenor of the Migration Research Group at the University of Waikato, and Director of the Tertiary Education Commission funded Building Research Capability in the Social Sciences (BRCSS).
The first independent Chair, Dr Arthur Grimes (2001/2 to 2004/5) is an non-executive director of the Reserve Bank, a Senior Fellow at Motu Economic and Public Policy Research Trust and an adjunct Professor of Economics at the University of Waikato.
