Social Science Research Award

The Social Science Research Award funds professional fellowships and postgraduate scholarships to conduct social science research and evaluation that is relevant to the development, delivery or evaluation of social policy in New Zealand.

The desired outcome of this award is to link quality social policy research and evaluation to policy and practice in order to improve the knowledge base and social outcomes in New Zealand.

Awards range from a few weeks to one year; their value and duration will vary according to circumstances. Applications addressing topics or issues relevant to several departments or agencies are encouraged.

A maximum of $15,000 per award is available. Awards will be allocated for no more than 12 months. This does not exclude applicants from being able to apply for future funding.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • Masters and PhD students enrolled or about to enrol in a research programme approved by a tertiary institution in New Zealand.
  • Professional fellows supported by their employer and host agency (national and international).
