Applying the Principle of Responsiveness to research and evaluation ethics

To enhance the ethical responsiveness of their work, officials should:

  • Develop engagement and research processes  respectful to the customs and beliefs of the communities, groups and individuals who participate in their research.

Refer to the sections on Research and Evaluation involving Maori and Research and Evaluation involving Pacific Peoples for guidance. Be aware that age, gender, language, religion, life experiences, values, beliefs, attitudes, situation and location will also produce variables which the researcher should be alert to. 

OBTAIN ADVICE.

  • Be open to making changes to their practices, in line with the customs, beliefs and practices of the communities, individuals and groups taking part in their research. 

Researchers should be explicit about the particular Code/s of Ethics they adhere to and which professional associations they are members of.
